The miniature shrines, statues, and even graves that you encounter on the way make for a mysterious and one could even say spooky experience. The trek is incredibly atmospheric, scattered throughout the trail are stone foxes (a symbol of Inari) that peer out at you as you make your pilgrimage. However, despite how one might feel about how unengaging or superficial the film is, there is no denying that it is a beautiful feast for the eyes. I don’t care for the film personally and with a score of 35% on Rotton Tomatoes, it would appear that I’m not alone. The 2005 film Memoirs of a Geisha was released to mixed but mostly decent reviews. I visited the filming locations of one of most well-known modern day movies set in Japan, Memoirs of Geisha. I go on a lot of ‘film location vacations’ but one of my favourite places to visit has to be Japan, the beautiful country has been the backdrop for many stunning films.
